Jets Will Fly To Win AFC East

My Past 3 Years Predictions
                    2013      7-9   (finished 8-8)
2014         1-13  (finished 4-12)
2015         10-6  (finished 10-6)
2016         11-5

The wait is finally over. The Jets will dethrone the Patriots and win the AFC East. They will do this with a relentless team defense. The Jets will win games during the season like the Denver Bronocs won the Super Bowl. In fact there are similarities with both defenses. The only thing the Jets lack is a top-notch edge pass rusher. The defensive line and secondary are comparable to the Broncos.
The Jets will alternate from a 3-4 to a 4-3 throughout the season. Muhammad Wilkerson who had 12 sacks last year will improve those numbers playing along side the likes of Sheldon Richardson and Leonard Williams who will have a break out year himself. Steve McLendon will do a fine job at nose tackle with up and coming Deon Simon backing him up.
The linebackers may be the only weak position on defense but much improved speed with Jordan Jenkins, Darron Lee and an improved Lorenzo Mauldin will do the job. The Jets pass coverage from the linebackers still are suspect but with the improved speed and excellent pass rush, they will be stopping some of those third and five plays this year.
The secondary with an older Darelle Revis is solid. I would put Revis on the weak receiver and double cover the #1 receiver. Revis had problems with players like Sammy Watkins and DeAndre Hopkins last year. Buster Skrine does a good job and is a good blitzer. Calvin Pryor has gotten better every year and Marcus Gilchrist just does his job and does it well. The Jets have depth in the secondary with Marcus Williams and Juston Burris.
The offense will be more exciting than last year! Brandon Marshall was the team’s MVP and his receiving numbers (109 rec. 1,502 yds. 14 TDs) will be hard to match. Eric Decker (80 rec. 1,027 yds. 12 TDs) is primed for another solid year. The big question is if Ryan Fitzpatrick can stay healthy the whole year and have a repeat performance from last year’s 31 touchdown passes and 3,905 yards. He will have Matt Forte in the backfield. Two years ago he had 102 receptions coming out of the backfield. If he is 90% of what he was, this will open things up for the receivers. Bilal Powell seems to get better and quicker every year. If Powell plays the last Bills game in 2015, I say the Jets would have won it. Nevertheless he provides a threat at both running and receiving. The Jets do lack a between the tackles runner who can gain the short fourth and one. We’ll have to see if they pick up a body after week one for short yardage situations. Quincy Enunwa is due for a break out season. He is oozing with talent. I am predicting a tight end will emerge and will have 25+ receptions this year.
The line is the Jets only question mark besides short yardage situations. Ryan Claddy’s health must hold up. And at right tackle Ben Ijalana or Brent Qvale must become a reliable player.
The “kids” at receiver should be fun to watch. Robby Anderson led the NFL in pre-season yardage. Jalin Anderson looks like a player though his return skills have to be polished. Charone Peake is my personal favorite but he will not get as many reps as the other two in a receiver loaded team.
The special teams are the most improved part of the Jets. Lachlan Edwards has shown he is an NFL punter and Nick Folk is back. Our coverage team looks completely different from last year. The Jets will actually get good field position this year.
I know the Jets schedule is tough especially the first 6 games. The Jets will rise to the occasion and I’m hoping they start the season 2-0. Sit back and enjoy, it should be a fun year!

Green Tidbits:
….It hasn’t been 24 hours and I’m tired hearing about Tim Tebow already….I say the Jets best offensive play of the pre-season was the Geno Smith TD pass to Charone Peake….Ryan Fitzpatrick will do some great things but will do some dumb things also….Is it me or do you get the feeling Brandon Marshall’s hip is more than just sore….What is the over-under for sacks combined-Wilkerson, Richardson and Williams. I say 35….Give Mark Sanchez credit, he stands up and answers all questions from reporters. I don’t know why but I’m pulling for him…I want to see more of tight end Brandon Bostick…. If Calvin Pryor doesn’t play out of control, he can have an All-Pro season….Would like to see a line for Quincy Enunwa 60 rec. 950 yds. and 10 TDs…. I still like David Harris. Probably the best linebacker in the league who never made All-Pro.
