Green Rewind By Marty Schupak Wednesday Nov.4, 2015

The frustration continues to linger after the Oakland debacle. The Marcus Williams safety experiment is probably over. I thought Williams was really improving at the end of last year. The Jets switching him to safety instead of using Dion Bailey does not bode well for the team’s confidence in Bailey. Hopefully Calvin Pryor will play this week but I’m hearing he is “doubtful.” The Jets haven’t gotten a turnover in 9 quarters. Remember the first four games and the turnovers they were creating.
The linebacker situation is getting worse and worse. Demario Davis gave us a tease the first four games looking like he was improving with each game. And it looks to me like Quinton Coples (thanks a lot Rex!) has one foot out the door playing less and less each week. The Jets will have to give Erin Henderson, Trevor Reilly and even Lorenzo Mauldin some more reps.
Chris Ivory has only 58 yards on 32 carries the last two games. This is unacceptable. He cannot do it on his own. Mangold who I say is “on the back 9” is still a big part of the line. We need him back desperately! It is amazing with the last two games, that the whole team, except for the defensive line look like they will need a complete makeover.
I mentioned a few weeks ago my concern about the age of the offensive line and them wearing down as the season goes on. It may be happening sooner than I expected.
With the quarterback situation, Bryce Petty is on alert. As it stands now any of the three QB’s can be the starter this week. But it looks like Fitz will get the nod. He practiced with a glove on during Wednesday’s practice. Don’t be surprised if the Jets activate all three QB’s this week.

   Immediate things Jets should do:
1)    Get Zac Stacy off of kick off returns. I’d even chance Cromartie there.
2)    Quinton Coples should not even play.
3)    Demario Davis should have his reps cut down.
4)    Marcus Williams must return to DB.
5)    Stevan Ridley must play.
6)    Get Tommy Bohannon more reps. He is a good blocker and positive things happen with him on the field.
7)    Use the nickel more because of our lack of linebacker speed.
8)    For now I’d run most running plays to the left side of the line until we find out if Willie Colon can still block.

From the Jet scribes………

Rich Cimini, ESPN

“Without a doubt, tackling and getting back to fundamentals and technique was emphasized during Wednesday’s practice. The Jets (4-3) cannot afford to drop a third straight game when they play Jacksonville (2-5) on Sunday at home.”

Manesh Mehta, NY Daily News

“A new word has been used to describe the Jets defense against the Raiders: loafing.”

Steve Serby, NY Post

“Bowles remains the Iceman Coach, the Stoic Coach, even in the wake of a disgraceful exhibition in Oakland by a defense that fancies itself as the elite of the elite.”

Green Tidbits:

David Harris came out on Monday and questioned the efforts by some players on the Jets defense calling it disgusting. I suspect that Antonio Cromartie and Demario Davis top his list!

Lorenzo Mauldin’s clip on special teams was one of the most blatant I have seen in a long time.

Oops! D’Brickshaw Ferguson just moved on a 3rd and 1.

What happened to the turnovers?

Coach Bowles is sending the Jets QB’s to the KC Royals to learn how to slide.

The Jets missed 19 tackles vs Oak, a league high this season. Marcus Williams missed 6.

Jets worked out receiver Greg Salas. I think he has upside. Sign him!

Mike Greenberg, of “Mike & Mike” via ESPN is claiming the Jets would be done without Fitzpatrick.

I can see the Jets cutting Revis as a cap casualty after the 2016 season.
